THIS INDUSTRY DESERVES BETTER EDUCATION. SO I BUILT IT.

Straight Out of Cosmo exists because cosmetology school didn't teach us what we actually needed to know — and somebody had to fix that.

HI, I'M LISA G

I've been behind the chair for over 15 years, and it's taken me further than I ever imagined. I've built a six figure business, worked backstage at Fashion Week in New York and Paris, partnered with some of the biggest brands in beauty, and helped thousands of hairstylists grow their careers. But titles don't mean much to me. At the end of the day, I'm still just a stylist who loves creating incredible hair, connecting with people, and proving that you don't have to fit the industry's mold to build a wildly successful career.

MY STORY

None of what I've built happened because I walked out of cosmetology school with it all figured out. It happened because people took a chance on me. They shared what they knew instead of guarding it. They opened doors instead of closing them. They taught me the things school never did — how to actually build a clientele, price my work, handle a client who wasn't happy, run a business instead of just holding scissors.

That's the gap Straight Out of Cosmo fills. Not textbook theory. Not perfectly prepped mannequins. Real technique, real clients, real business — taught by someone who's actually lived it, still lives it, and isn't done growing either.

WHY DO I TEACH?

I started teaching because I saw a gap in how this industry educates people — and I wanted to close it. I wanted real. I wanted messy. I wanted the hard stuff nobody puts in the curriculum.

Behind the chair, I sat with clients dealing with postpartum hair loss, medication reactions, box color gone wrong — the stuff cosmetology school pretends doesn't exist. And here's the truth: that's not the exception. That's the majority. Rarely does a client walk in with "perfect" hair. So what happens to everyone else?

That question is why I did the research, built the curriculum, and started teaching stylists how to actually show up for those clients — safely, confidently, without judgment. If most real clients have real hair problems, most of our education should be built around that reality, not around ignoring it.

MY VALUES

No gatekeeping. No fluff.

Real over perfect. Every lesson comes from real clients with real hair — postpartum loss, medication reactions, box color, and everything else cosmetology school skips. If it doesn't hold up behind the chair, we don't teach it.

Education, not gatekeeping. The best parts of this industry were learned behind the chair, from people who chose to share instead of compete. We do the same.

Business, not just technique. Great hair doesn't pay the bills on its own. We teach pricing, consultations, marketing, and the business side cosmetology school skips.

Community over competition. Straight Out of Cosmo — and The Open Chair — exist because stylists grow faster together than alone.

If you're ready to grow your skills, build a business you're proud of, and create a career on your own terms — you're already in the right place.
